1. Introduction

Following the first visit in March 2026, the NEXUS team visited the Cenergi Sua Betong Biogas Plant operated by Cenergi SEA Berhad, the industry partner of the project, for the second time. This visit gave the HU members, including the postdoctoral researcher and students engaged in microbial and bioinformatic analyses, their first opportunity to observe the full-scale anaerobic digestion of palm oil mill effluent (POME), together with the PhD students of the Malaysian team.

2. Guided Tour

Mr. Mohd Asraf and the plant staff guided the team through the facility, including the feedstock handling areas, the anaerobic digestion system for POME, the biogas capturing lagoon, and the biogas treatment and energy utilization systems.

3. Conclusion

The second visit to the Sua Betong Biogas Plant allowed the HU and UM members, particularly the early-career researchers and students, to share a common understanding of full-scale POME digestion, which will guide the laboratory experiments of the project.
